Dear friends, there is once again disquiet on the literature front of our release plan for this year. For Václav Votruba, writer, music journalist and musician from South Bohemia, returns with his book series Dělníci kovu (“The Metalworkers”), in which he brings forth the biographies of the key personae of the Czech metal scene. Genre-wise, the third installment, that is to come out this month already, follows up on its predecessor, also resting on the cornerstone of grind – gore grind to be exact – as the latest protagonist is Maty!
A hazmat suit, protective goggles and a distinct vocal delivery. Energized to max and able to push his fans to do incredible feats. Thus we know Martin “Maty” Matoušek, the frontman of the unmistakable Gutalax (as well as of the HC squad NBF), who hails from the town of Křemže in South Bohemia. Maty is a natural born showman and one of the most emphatic and most popular figures of both the Czech and the international extreme metal scene. There is however more to such a portrait: Maty as a promoter, organizing gigs and festivals and doing dramaturgy in a music club; Maty as a VHS collector; and last but not least, Maty as a parent.
Same as last time, the author again opted for the form of a book interview, in which Maty offers us a peek into all the corners of his life, pulsing with heavy music from the teenage years, while spicing it all with his humor and hyperbole.
As always, more about the book is to come in our usual coverage, so stay tuned!
Enjoy!
