Dear friends, hear the tales from the thousand lakes - for today, the Czech edition of the oficial biograhy of the Suomi metal icon Amorphis, penned by the writer, music journalist and musician Markus Laakso, is published!
The bible of all Amorphis fans published in Czech translation! Dive into the history of the Finnish metal legend
The Finnish metal scene has long held an outstanding reputation. It has given the world many famous bands and groundbreaking albums. Among its pioneers, who keep the bar pretty high or are pushing it even higher, are Amorphis. Some years ago, this iconic outfit got its official biography, which is now published in Czech translation by MetalGate.
The book by the music journalist and musician Markus Laakso follows Amorphis from their earliest incarnations as various teenage bands; is a truly captivating read, full of authentic recollections of both current and former band members as well as others revolving around the band. In other words, the book is not limited to a dry chronological listing of events – it’s vivid, offering the reader a unique behind-the-scenes look at a band that released influential albums that impacted the forming metal scene and still fills large concert venues around the globe.
“My aim was to create as diverse and comprehensive an account of the band’s history as possible; a book that would be not only informative but also entertaining, gripping, and funny, just like the band members’ anecdotes,” says Laakso who first encountered the band in the early 90s when listening to a radio music show called Metalliliitto. As he recalls in the book, as an ominous, primitive death metal song equipped with stylish guitar melodies crept in through his ear canals, it immediately integrated itself as a part of his blood flow. “Although the song itself wasn’t that unusual, the way it mixed things was fresh and original. The effect was amplified by sepulchral growling that favourably stood out from the masses. It was called Warriors Trial, the fourth track off the fresh from the oven debut album by Amorphis, The Karelian Isthmus.”

The Czech edition is published as hardcover, like the original, and was translated by Zuzana Vrbová. It has over 400 pages with plenty of rare photos included. Since the original was published some years ago, it covers the first 25 years of the story of Amorphis, thus ending in 2015.
